After a mild winter and a very friendly March 2014, nature flourishs significantly earlier than last year. The cherry blossom along the Upper Rhine, in the Ortenau, Breisgau and Markgraeflerland has already begun, meanwhile, almost 3 weeks before Easter many daffodils are already over.
Also in the next few days glorious spring weather is expected; at temperatures above 20 degrees in the Upper Rhine Valley and even in the middle layers of the Black Forest, it can only mean: Get out into nature and enjoy the spring!
Here are a few Spring Impressions, pictures taken 31 march 2014, near Durbach.
In the last warm days nature has developed rapidly, the meadows are full green and dotted with yellow dandelions and blooming fruit trees, and deciduous forests show the first tender green.
In the next few days spring-like weather is expected, inviting to a trip to the Black Forest and a short hike. So far still the deeper layers are recommended, in the higher elevations from 800-1000m it takes a little longer until spring comes.

The time has finally come: the fruit trees in the Ortenau region have started to flower.
The entire landscape is covered by a sea of white flowers - this is spring in the purest sense! And with the current sunny weather, an outing and a short walk are definitely worth the effort.

Spring has (finally) arrived in the Black Forest and just in time for Easter! People and nature can now enjoy the first warm days after the long, hard winter, 24° C was recorded in the upper reaches of the Rhine River. The cherry trees are in full bloom and have turned the entire countryside into a sea of spring flowers. Today's Good Friday spring weather tempted countless thousands out of the house to go for a walk or set off on their bicycles and motorcycles or go for a drive.
The motorcyclists who travelled just 5km from the springlike conditions in Sasbachwalden to the Black Forest High Road were flabbergasted when they had to park their motorcycles at the Mummelsee lake beside metre-high snow banks. After taking the few steps from the parking area to the lake, they then discovered that it was still frozen over – but this didn't stop the visitors from lining the banks to enjoy the sunshine.
Incidentally: Skiing is still in full swing on the Feldberg Mountain in the High Black Forest, almost all the ski-lifts are in service and the piste is in good condition. The end of the season is scheduled for the 19.04.
